support@mensishealth.comPrivacy and data
Is my data end-to-end encrypted?
No, and we'd rather say that out loud. Your data sits readable in our database in Frankfurt. It's encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2 or higher) and at rest (AES-256), but that's what any professional database does and it doesn't protect you from us as the provider. What does protect you there is our break-glass procedure: two-person approval, a recorded reason and logging that cannot be erased.
Can you read my notes and deen data?
Technically yes. In practice only through that break-glass procedure, and then with a trail that stays. We think it matters more that you know this than that it sounds good.
Do you sell data or show advertising?
No. Neither, ever. That's a hard commitment in our terms, not only on this page. There is no ad SDK, no attribution SDK and no analytics SDK in the app.
What happens when I delete my account?
Your logs, profile, deen data and conversations are deleted, you're signed out and your local copy is wiped. Live data is gone within 30 days, backups within another 14. Note: your subscription does not stop automatically — you cancel that in your App Store or Google Play settings. The deletion screen in the app says so itself and links you there.
Is my data really all in Europe?
The data itself: yes, in Frankfurt. But several of our suppliers are American companies (Supabase, AWS, RevenueCat). That means the CLOUD Act plays a role even though the data sits physically in the EU. We name that ourselves in our sub-processor list and keep a fully European chain on the table as a way out.
The deen module
Do I have to use the deen module?
No. It's off by default and has its own consent. Leave it off and no deen tab appears, and we process no data about your faith.
Which school of law does Mensis follow?
None. The thresholds are settings you choose yourself: your habitual duration, your maximum hayd duration (10 or 15 days) and your minimum period of purity. We ask “which guideline do you follow?” and name no schools of law.
Who reviewed the religious content?
The decision logic, all copy, the qadaa counting rules and the ghusl triggers go past a fiqh-qualified reviewer before they reach the app. Once that's final we'll name the reviewer on the deen page, with their permission.
Does Mensis support nifas?
Not yet. Postnatal bleeding has its own rules that we don't support in version 1. Rather than guess, the app says so explicitly and points you to a scholar. Nifas arrives with pregnancy mode.
Can the AI assistant answer fiqh questions?
No, categorically. Your deen data never enters the assistant's context either — there's a test in our pipeline that fails if that ever happened by accident.
Predictions and use
How accurate are the predictions?
That depends on how much you've logged. Mensis uses a weighted average of your last six cycles and always shows a margin of uncertainty alongside it. With zero or one logged cycle that margin is explicitly wide (± 3 to 4 days), and it says so.
Can I use Mensis as contraception?
No. Mensis is not a medical device and not suitable for preventing pregnancy. The app never presents fertile days as “safe days” either. If you want to reliably avoid pregnancy, use actual contraception and talk to your doctor.
Does the app work if I'm on the pill?
Yes. You set your contraception and the predictions adapt: on the pill or a hormonal IUD there's no ovulation prediction, but you do get your break week and expected bleeding — or a note that no bleeding is expected.
Does Mensis work offline?
Yes for everyday use. Logging, viewing your calendar and seeing your predictions all work without a connection; predictions are calculated on your device. The app syncs as soon as you're back online.
What's the minimum age?
16. That's the consent age under the Dutch implementation of the GDPR. Onboarding asks for your year of birth and stops with an explanation if you're younger.
Price and subscription
What does Mensis cost?
The core is free: logging, predictions, calendar, insights and the full deen module. Mensis Plus follows later (€34.99 per year or €3.49 per month) with partner mode, a PDF for your doctor, temperature tracking and the AI assistant. There is no paywall in the app at launch.
Will free features become paid later?
No. A feature that was ever free never becomes paid here. That rule sits in our terms of use, where it's enforceable, and not only in a marketing line.
How do I cancel?
Through your App Store or Google Play subscriptions, in two taps. We sell no subscriptions through a website, so there's no separate account to work your way through.
