Signals of PCOS and endometriosis

Two conditions that are often recognised late, and that both start with symptoms you have been noticing for months.

How common they are

Worldwide an estimated 10 to 13 percent of women have PCOS, and up to 70 percent of them do not know it. Endometriosis affects about 10 in 100 women, mostly between 20 and 55.

Diagnosis takes years

For endometriosis it takes four to twelve years on average before a diagnosis is made. That is exactly why writing down what you notice matters: a pattern across months weighs more than a memory in the consulting room.

What to bring to your doctor

Pain that affects your daily life, pain during sex or bowel movements, a cycle that keeps staying away, or hair growth and acne that do not fit what you are used to. Mensis makes no diagnosis and gives no score; it only helps you show what is going on.
